Macro Photos offers the original photographs marked as free downloads on macrophotos.org under this license. It explains the permissions you receive and the limits you must follow.
Photos covered by this license
This license covers our original photo files that we offer for download and identify as covered by this license. It does not automatically cover the website logo, icons, page text, software, or material carrying a separate rights notice.
We retain copyright in the original photographs. Downloading a file gives you permission to use it under these terms; it does not transfer ownership of the original photo.
Permission for personal and commercial projects
For covered photos, Macro Photos grants you a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to download, copy, edit, display, publish, and include the image in personal and commercial projects. Non-exclusive means other people can use the same photo. Royalty-free means we do not charge a fee for uses this license allows.
Your permission continues for as long as you follow this license and the law. You may use a covered photo in projects such as:
- Websites, blog articles, newsletters, and social media posts.
- Presentations, learning materials, reports, and editorial layouts.
- Advertising, business graphics, packaging, and promotional designs.
- Printed materials and physical products that incorporate the photo.
- Completed designs that you create for a client.
You may crop, resize, adjust colors, add text, or combine a photo with other elements. Check the original dimensions before choosing a print size or enlarging an image.
Credit is welcome
Credit is optional under this license. If you choose to give credit, you can write “Photo from Macro Photos” and link to the original photo page or macrophotos.org.
Optional credit does not replace any separate permission that your intended use needs.
Uses this license does not allow
- Selling, giving away, or redistributing the photo file itself as a standalone download.
- Uploading the file to a stock photo service, wallpaper download site, image pack, or competing photo collection.
- Redistributing a file after only minor changes, such as a crop, filter, or size change, as a way around these limits.
- Claiming that you created or own copyright in the original photograph.
- Using a photo as a trademark or service mark without separate written permission.
- Using a photo unlawfully or falsely suggesting that Macro Photos or an identifiable person endorses your product, service, or views.
Posting a photo within a finished website, article, social post, or design is an allowed use. Offering the underlying file as a stock asset or separate download is not. You may give a client the files needed for an allowed finished project, but the client must follow these terms and cannot extract the photo for redistribution.
Other rights and permissions
This license grants only the copyright permissions that Macro Photos controls. A photograph can contain material or subjects with separate rights, such as a logo, artwork, recognizable person, or private property.
You are responsible for any extra permission your project needs. Do not assume that a model release, property release, or trademark permission exists unless the photo page or a separate written agreement says so.
This license does not limit any use that the law already allows without permission, such as an applicable copyright exception.
Requests outside the free license
For standalone distribution, special permissions, or a use not covered here, email [email protected] with the photo link and a description of your project. We can confirm any extra permission in writing.
Changes and continued use
Keep a copy of the photo page and the license version that applied when you downloaded the file. A later update to this page or removal of a photo does not cancel permissions we validly granted under this version, provided you continue to follow its terms.
If you break this license, your permission for the affected photo ends until we restore it in writing or the law provides otherwise. Stop the use that breaks the terms and contact us to discuss a remedy.
Availability and suitability
We provide covered photos as available. To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that an image will suit every project, print size, or technical use. Nothing in this license excludes rights or remedies that the law does not allow us to exclude.
